MAJOR FLOOD EMERGENCY

The Local Governments of the Dawson region is responding to a severe flooding event that is currently impacting areas from Mackay through to Townsville and further north.

Heavy rainfall has led to rising water levels, which has cut off the Bruce Highway at Merinda and other roads across the electorate.

There have also been several reports of homes and businesses being inundated by floodwater.

Emergency services are working tirelessly to ensure public safety, conduct evacuations, and provide assistance to those affected.

“My top priority is the safety and well-being of all residents in the electorate of Dawson. Please keep up to date with the warnings from the Bureau of Meteorology and emergency services.” Federal Member for Dawson Andrew Willcox said.”

“I am really concerned about the prospect of more intense rainfall in the coming days and I urge everyone to stay vigilant and to regularly check your local disaster dashboard for a full comprehensive list of roads that are closed due to flooding.”

“I will continue to monitor this dangerous weather and I am ready to provide any Federal support I can in the coming days ahead.”

“Please stay safe and take care and remember if it is flooded forget it.”
