LNP COMMITS $18,850 TO LOCAL HOMELESS CHARITY IF ELECTED

An elected Dutton-Littleproud Coalition Government will commit $18,850 to Orange Sky, to help the vital charity ensure homeless people have access to clean their clothes.

Federal Member for Dawson, Andrew Willcox, said the funding would allow Orange Sky to build a new shed for their washing machines.

“Having access to washing machines and clean clothes is about giving people the dignity they deserve,” Mr Willcox said.

“I was pleased to visit Orange Sky’s new site in Mackay, which they now share with the Fijian Church, Girl Guides and Weight Watchers.

“I met with the team and learnt they really need some financial assistance getting the site up and running and I wanted to help anyway I could.”

Orange Sky Co-Founder Nic Marchesi said the organisation has been providing support to people experiencing homelessness and hardship, providing a safe place to come and wash their clothes, and have a meal.

The not-for-profit organisation first started in Brisbane in 2014 and due to demand has spread right across the country.

“No one deserves to go without essentials – clean clothes, a hot shower and a safe place to sleep; however, rising costs are increasingly forcing everyday Australians to choose between living essentials, bills and rent, and people who may have never thought they would be struggling are turning to us for help,” Mr Marchesi said.

"We value building strong connections with local communities, and through the generous committed funding by the Federal Member for Dawson, Orange Sky will be able to provide a new service location to support more people and families in Mackay who are doing it tough.”

“The LNP is proud to support not for profit organisations such as Orange Sky so they can continue to help vulnerable people in the community.” Mr Willcox said.
